Swiper no swiping!

!0:30 at night and there was a noise by the garage and chicken coop. Sweats on, coat on, loaded 22 later out I go with a flashlight. Not sure what it was making the noise there was no fresh tracks. A day long headache had me down early.....I know the chicks like to peck the big door. I don't know. I guess I will keep my gun close by and go out again if I need to. Where's Charles Ingels when you need him.

Coop is done

OK the only thing that got accomplished today was the coop and run. Except for a window that will have to be in spring the coop and run is as done as done can me. Other than that I have had a quiet day and still married to the same man that put up the coop. When Johnny is building/fixing something he turns in to a very big grouch. We survived is about all I can say. Sore back and hands later we threw in the towel. Finis!

Snow Sunday

I think it is lovely. I have been out in all but maybe 2 hours today. I got my lil chickadees some more bedding along with an upgrade of big boy and girl food. They are warm and cozy with my favorite portable (safe) heater. I have been leaving the light on until the window is in. I don't want them to not have light. The fencing is almost done and as impatient as I can be I will finish it probably the not correct way soon. The rest of the evening I will work indoor cleaning up a bit and making dinner. I love the weather up here even if it rains the woods make everything fun. I will be doing more improvements around the homestead this week and a little more outdoor adventure. Wish I could share it all with you :) .

Saturday

Went to Lewiston today. Went hunting with my Uncle Sam and Johnny. No deer. I got lost on memories of my Dad and the day seemed so long. We left the property at 1 and visited with my Mom and him for about an hour. After freshening up we took Mom out to lunch at a little restaurant that sat on East Twin Lake. The food is really good, it was warm and cozy with really good service. I ended up tearing up 3 times so not to bad. The ride there was snowy and windy and most of the ride back was about the same. I got home and it said 15 degrees so after pottying the dogs I went to check on my lil chickadees. I was upset because there water froze up. I turned up the heat in their coop and gave them fresh water and food. Tomorrow I will try to hunt down some straw.

Friday:

Wow, what a day! Been busy all day with the chickens, taking care of the dogs, trying to get the house decent....it just piles up quick :). By 1:30 Johnny and I headed to spend time looking for the deer. At 5 we packed up and I had to go to town. 1; stop for oil and filter, 2; run in hardware for portable propane, 3; grab tobacco and tubes, 4; half of cart full of got to haves at Dollar General. Home at 8 then it started dogs, put away everything, clean out Jeep and get ready for hunting trip to Lewiston, then after just fighting 16 chickens sitting down for a minute before bath and bed. I think I was less busy before I retired. Got to soak my achy breaky back!

Starting the coop

I took the chicks outside for some scratching time....this is where it went bad. The cheap coop we bought and later realized they were to small have no bottoms. Next thing you know we are in the pooper. Johnny started putting the kennel together and I started clearing out our shed. Other than the garage this is a much needed storage area. So the making of the coop has started. I am wore out and we both need a rest after the abuse we put ourselves through. The chickens are happy but are arguing over who the head Chick is. So far Lurkey is winning. Johnny reads over my shoulder and mentioned I must have failed english....I actually aced it just have really poor writing skills. Maybe I need that thing you talk and it types. HA! I don't talk well neither.
